In August 2001 I visited Venice for a short 3 day trip with my daughter, just for the sheer cultural experience, after all, there's no where like it in the world! It was also my first real trip abroad.

I returned to Venice in September 2002, the weather was a bit colder and wetter, the boards used during the floods were lined up in the streets.

Next visit was June 2003, when I thought it might be a bit cooler than in 2001 yet warmer than 2002. What a shock to arrive in the middle of a great heatwave which saw temperatures soar past 40C. People more than used to the heat (from Australia and Florida) were commenting on how it was far too hot for them!

In 2007 we went to Venice to see Aerosmith for my husband's birthday. We were only there for one night and stayed at the Camping Jolly campsite on the mainland. Sadly freak weather conditions blew through the park where the music festival was being held so the concert was cancelled :(
We returned to Venice for a week in September 2007 and again stayed at camping Jolly. More freak weather saw the worst floods the mainland had seen in 35 years and we were trapped at the campsite because the subway was full to the top with water.

we still love Venice though, and I think we will visit again and again!
