Amsterdam is a beautiful city and a must see destination for any tour of Europe.
I only had a few days there and on my first full day it rained all day long. This may have had an impact on my overall feeling about the city.
There is definitely a lot to see - museums and the canals. Plenty of shopping and restaurants. Most of my dining experiences were very good but I did have one very poor one (see my restaurant tips).
While I did enjoy my visit I didn't like Amsterdam as much as some of the other places that I've been to in Europe. Amsterdam seemed to have a harder edge to it than so many European cities I've visited. The drugs, sex shops, and red light district seem to bring out more unsavory characters. Also, I had been away from home (alone on business) for about 10 days by the time I got here so that may have influenced my thinking as well.
Perhaps if I were to return I might get a different impression... |
