Things To Do: Regency Suspension Bridge
  • Tip Rating:
  • This area's first Colorado River bridge was built in 1903 between Mills and San Saba counties to serve area ranchers and farmers. The bridge fell into the river on May 9, 1924, killing Raymond Burns Jernigan, his horse, and several cattle. Its replacement was destroyed in a 1936 flood. Erected in 1939 by ninety percent hand labor, the Regency Suspension Bridge became the pride of the area. This bridge, along with the Beveridge Suspension Bridge are the only two bridges of their kind open to vehicular traffic in the state of Texas.

Things To Do: Beveridge Suspension Bridge
  • Tip Rating:
  • Beveridge Suspension Bridge
The Beveridge Suspension Bridge crosses the San Saba River approximately one-half mile north of the Wedding Oak, this bridge has just one lane and a timber floor. It is one of only two suspension bridges open to vehicular traffic in the state of Texas and is also on the Colorado River Trail.

P.S. this bridge scared the hell out of me as a child!
