Albuquerque New Mexico

Indian Eagle Dance
<font size=3><font color=black>I explored a beautiful charming Historic Village within a modern city.

Old Town Albuquerque is a place where centuries of history and modern life merge to blend 18th century architecture with narrow brick paths, world famous artwork, the finest in jewelry, delicious food and rare specialty shops offering you the creative talents of our Spanish, Native American and Anglo heritages.

Old Town Albuquerque is full of quaint merchant shops in the true southwestern style all located within a ten minute walk from each other. (Old Town Map) For the romantic in you, horse drawn carriages can transport you back in time allowing you to imagine how life was in Old Town, 300 years ago.

Located in the Rio Grande Valley in north central New Mexico, the city of Albuquerque with a population of about 500,000, may just have the best year round weather of any place on the planet. Crystal blue skies, bordered by majestic colorful mountains, winter skiing, unforgettable sunsets, ancient petroglyphs, the biggest annual balloon festival in the world and a rich and unique cultural history.

My fondest memory was seeing the Indian play his flute and the dancing. The first song was "Amazing Grace", then "How Great Thou Art" and finally "God Bless America".

This was the week that the war started in Iraq and I thought how ironic, as the Americans fought the land of the Indians.
The Eagle Dance

Indian culture and dancing

This is the Eagle dance, which was followed by the girls dancing with pottery balanced on their heads and the last dance was called the Deer dance.

This was taken at the Indian Culture Center which represents 19 Indian Pueblo tribes in New Mexico.
Mariachi band

Spanish culture

This was a youth Mariachi band we saw performing. They were quite good, some Spanish girls had beautiful colored costumes and dresses.

Regarding your recent posting under Local Customs-- you mean Zuni rather than Zulu, right?
