Just a 15-minute drive into Québec takes you to Gatineau Park’s 363 square kilometres of Canadian Shield wilderness. Sandy beaches on clear, cool lakes are perfect for picnics-and dips on summer afternoons. Many hiking trails await, from convenient short loops to overnight treks.
I went to the Lac Phillippe-Parent Beach in Gatineau Park for a relaxing afternoon of suntanning! The lake is gorgeous with white sand, paved trails, washroom facilities, lifeguards and beach volleyball courts.

Jacques Cartier Park, Gatineau

This is a park that I visited on several different occassions during my stay. Its a beautiful park with lots of space, and has a great location- being right across the river from Ottawa.
I was there originally enjoying the activities taking place for Canada Day celebrations.
Then I went to the park another night to play "disc golf" a mix of frisbee, golf and baseball that I've never seen anywhere else!
That night I also watched as HUGE hot-air balloons were released into the sky. Word had it that a one hour ride in those balloons was a whopping $200!!
And finally, Jacques Cartier Park was my starting point the day I took a 2hr. bike tour around the park and city of Gatineau.
So as you can see, there's lots to do at the Jacques Cartier Park and its definately worth a little side-trip!
