Ahhhh…the joys of travel.

by unexplored - last update: Jun 22, 2007

When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you feel comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable.
CLIFTON FADIMAN, writer and critic.

Both optimists and pessimists contribute to society. The optomist invents the areoplane, the pessimist the parachute.
GEORGE BERNARD SHAW, playwright.

The use of travelling is to regulate imagination by reality, and instead of thinking how things might be, to see them as they are.
SAMUEL JOHNSON, writer.

For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move.
ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON, writer.

They say travel broadens the mind; but you must have the mind.
GK CHESTERTON, writer.

Take only pictures, cast only shadows, leave only ripples of understanding as you travel the world.
DAVID BELLAMY, naturalist.

An agreeable companion on a journey is as good as a carriage.
PUBLIUS SYRUS, Roman writer.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.
MARK TWAIN, writer.
Hundreds of travellers come and go all over the world on a daily basis. Some find new ways while others walk along ancient trails. Some discover new ways of watching the world while others discover themselves. No matter what started you, your trips, those unrepeatable experiences, always become stories worthy of sharing. The excitement, the drama, the new places, new foods, new people. There's nothing quite like the thrill of seeing something for the very first time. In fact, the only thing better than traveling is returning home.
Life is a journey, most of us would agree with that. A journey of joy? Maybe for some. We are all different but we have a lot in common, maybe more than you think. We all laugh. We all hurt. We all make mistakes. We all dream.
Turning your life's journey into a journey of joy is a process. Mission statements and life goals are a great start, but they're not enough. They can tell us where we're going, but not why we're headed there in the first place.
Maybe before we try to figure out where we're going, we should take some time to think about who this person is who's taking the journey in the first place...

SIGNS YOU'RE A SEASONED TRAVELLER

All your passport pages have been used up.

It's quicker to list the countries you haven't been to.

You have friends in countries your friends from home haven't even heard of.

You have been medically classified as resistant to all known diseases on account of all the immunisation injections you've received.

The staff at the airport know you by name.

You have enough frequent flier miles to get to the moon.

Your lifetime guaranteed rucksack is giving up the will to live.

You feel more comfortable sleeping on a bunk bed in a room with 12 other people from eight different countries.

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! I'm more often on myspace than on VT these days, but it's still nice to feel a part of the community. :) ~Margot
