| Claire & Orlikins at the Oktoberfest 1998 |
| | Orlikins goes to the Oktoberfest OK, I have to confess. I only chose to move to Munich at this time so I could check out the Oktoberfest, which strictly speaking isnt in October, but after 13 pints and a few peanuts later, who gives a feck. I didnt really know what to expect of it really. All I knew that there was gonna be loads beer.
The Oktoberfest is in a relatively central location in a part of town called Theresienweise, near Muenchener Train Station.
You walk in, past all the fast food stalls - and you do not need ID!!! - it's like a carnival with rollercoasters, candy floss, clowns, fast food joints and of course all those beer tents. Each tent is owned by a local brewery, (hey Munich didnt get its beer rep for nothing!). When you get into the tent, you see rows and rows of benches with rows and rows of drunken people waving chickens (trust me on this one), blue and white bunting (Bavaria's regional colours) and bierkrugs around the place with a typical cliche German oompa band. It's well cool.
The first time we went, we went to the Hacker Pschorr tent, which was jam packed with drunken Aussies and Americans. MALE Aussies and Americans ...drooool... Lemmetellyasomething, I've NEVER been offered so much sex and drugs in one afternoon!!! Personally I think it was down to the fact that I happened to be wearing pigtails that day, giving me an air of youth and innocence ;-o). Anyway I got talking to this nice Dutch guy called Patrick, getting on well and after a while he introduced me to his friend. I dont know how they got the impression or whatever, but they asked me back to their place for a "Dutch Sandwich" - me being the Irish filling, if ya get me....
I went again during the week with the rest of the Interns, who I personally found to be a shower of boring ***s to be honest, with a couple of exceptions. If ya wanna see pictures of German student debauchery, check out Siemens Studentenclub site - > http://www.siemens-studenten-club.de/events/oktoberfest.htm
It's in German, but basically I'm the one in the red shirt standing auf den Tisch. ;) |
