I went to Manchester, hoping to see the Commonwealth games but that so didnt happen :)

The weather was AWFUL, but it didnt stop me from seeing as much as I could of this city!

I watched some of the games on the big screen set up in Piccadilly gardens in the city centre and mainly walked around to get my bearings. And here is a pic of Her Maj Queen Vicky at night in the Piccadilly gardens.

Manchester is on the River Irwell and I was quite surprised at the amount of canals around the city, I hadnt realised there were so many.

I'd definitely go back because the shopping is just BRILLIANT :-)))

I was in England for a business trip and we had a few hours to spare in Manchester before catching our flight.

In the three-year interval since my initial visit (see above), Manchester has thrived! It has become seriously prosperous and the prescence of money in the city is unavoidable - I saw loads of guys going around in top-of-the range convertible cars with the tops down, the women were in top-to-toe designer gear (very "Footballer's Wives", but if you can't do it in Manchester...), everyone was literally groomed to the max. Now the exclusive Harvey Nicks store has opened up in central Manchester, and they don't move to any old city.

But seriously though, just how many Starbucks do you need in Manchester???? They were bloody everywhere I looked!!
