I spent Millenium Eve at a house party in Cork. Of course when the clock struck midnight, I had passed out, drunk as could be, upstairs. :)
In 2002 I atoned for my Millenium Drunken Odyssey and I went down to Kinsale for the October bank holiday weekend but stopped off in Cork city for a few hours too. My sister has recently moved to Cork, so I have a good incentive to visit Cork more often.
Cork city is actually on an island and the suburbs spreads out on the banks of the river Lee, as you can see from my feeble attempt at map-scanning below.
St. Patrick's Hill in Cork City is the steepest hill in Ireland.
Cork is the 2005 European City of Culture, so there will be lots of activities going on. Check out http://www.cork2005.ie for more information.
You say "I'm Grand" all the time.
You think of Murphy's as if it is the sixth food group.
You disagreed with the above - Murphy's is the FIRST food group.
You're pale and white... yet compared to others your suntan looks good.
You say "Are you Grand ?" all the time.
You say "Isn't that grand?" all the time.
You say "That'd be grand" all the time.
You take 4 hours to get home on a Saturday night and think nothing of it.
You don't eat anything cold, uncooked or not resembling meat, bread or potatoes.
Roy Keane is GOD.
Anyone who disagrees with the above statement, or indeed with anything you say, is a Langer.
You believe the Jack Lynch Tunnel is a masterful achievement of Corkonian design & engineering.
You say "Your man" all the time.
You say "Your woman" all the time.
You say "It's grand that your man asked if I'm grand" all the time.
You find yourself still living with family and having dinners cooked for you by someone's mammy - at 30.
You think Cork is the real capital of Ireland
You kept those forged euro notes with the "People's Republic of Cork" watermark
- In a nutshell:Not just a city, but a state of mind...

As for the Blarney Stone, Dutch ANWB tourguide says it's the ultimate Irish cliche - still, why not give it a try?
Studly Students, Magnificent Music and Discounted Drinks -- a pub can't be much better than that. I can see I will need an translator when I visit.
