I'm very lucky to live in a place that so many people can only dream of so I try to remember it as soon as I get the inevitable bout of island fever!
Also known as Tahiti and Her Islands, French Polynesia is representative of Beauty and Sensuality throughout the world. Sundrenched beaches and luminescent waters full of 3/4 naked people also come to mind!
But forget about any bimboesque prettyface postcard place cliché...
The sheer power of French Polynesia's obvious attributes will come up onto the unsuspecting holidaymaker at the slightest change of wind, of light or temperature.
Luxuriant peaks take on a daunting majesty, lacy coral reefs are razoredged, startling shades of blue clash and blend in the lagoon and people smile at you from tribal tattoed faces.
The message is clear: Don't take French Polynesia for granted as just another South Seas Paradise!
Today, French Polynesia is a modern French Overseas Territory full of contradictions mostly brought on by the consequences of colonisation and the ongoing armwrestling between the French State and the increasingly autonomous local government.
The reality of French Polynesia is that of any country with good and bad mingling everyday.
But the spirit of Tahiti and Her Islands remains and its haunting call continues to seduce sailors, romantics and now tourists alike.
Everyone wants to live the Dream...
Hope your dreams will come true and that you'll enjoy the page.
As for me, never a day goes by that I take this for granted. French Polynesia may be relatively untouched but I promise that's the last thing you'll be after visiting!
Enjoy!
