<B><font color='navy' size='1'><center> SETTLEMENT The district of Sibiu is situated in the centre of ROMANIA, in the South - East of Transylvania. The geographical centre of te country is localized at Dealul Frumos (The Beautiful Hill), near the town Agnita. It is marked, on the map of the district,on the parallels 45030' and 46017' northern latitude and the meridians 23054'and 24057'. Area: 5.422 km2, representing 2,3 percents from the country's area. GEOGRAPHICAL DATA Varied, in plateaus. In the South and South - West it is bordered by Fagaras Mountains (Negoi Peak - 2.535 m; Buteanu's Hunting - 2.508 m), Lotru Mountains, Cindrel Mountains (Cindrel Peak - 2.244m, Serbota - 2.006 m) populated with forests, pastures and glacial lakes.
Sibiu Depression - watered by the river with the same name, Fagaras Depression - watered by the Olt river and Secas or Apold Depressions, border in this area the vast Transylvanian Plateau, being part of it. In the district of Sibiu there also is Hartibaciu Plateau, watered by the river with the same name and Tarnave Plateau, including the hydrographic basins of the rivers Tarnava Mare and Tarnava Mica, affluents of Mures. The mountains represent 30% from the area of the district, the plateaus - 50%, the rivers and their meadows - 20%. |
