I was working and studying for 3 1/2 months along the Gulf of Mexico at the University of Texas at Austin Marine Biology Institute (UTMSI). The marine biology station is actually in Port Aransas which is very close to Aransas Pass. The unique part about this place is that it's located on a series of barrier islands that run along the entire coastline of Texas. Before I lived here for the summer I didn't even know the coastline of Texas had all these islands.
When you visit the gulf you will see beautiful sunsets, nice blue water in most areas, sea turtles, pelicans flying in an armada over the water at dusk, tuna boats, super tankers, and much more!
It's quite hot and humid down there but after about a week you will get used to the heat and humidity.
