Sicily is beautiful and Taormina is a fabulous little town. It's a small town at the top of the mountain. Messina is the town right below at the beach. Hang out at the beach during the day and go into town at night. There's a gondola that runs between the two towns every 10 minutes.
The beaches here are little coves. All are pretty much the same. You have an option of paying to rent a chair or just to lay out on the rocks for free. I recommend the chairs....
There's one main street that goes through the town. There are lots of shops and bars and restaurants along. It crowded with people every day, day or night.

Great page! If Sicily has the best gelato, that is reason enough to visit Taormina.
that looks really really nice.
I wrote "this" in 2004. You still state that the town below is Messina. BTW, your staircase pic is the spot of my Taormina pic, just different pots. "The beach below the town to Giardini-Naxos. BTW, Messina is 35 miles north of Taormina". Ciao
Helen, good tips and great pictures. I wish I has a digital camera when I was last there but they did not even exist. Ken
pretty town
Thanks for the nice tips for a place I would like to visit!
Not much information but who cares, a blond never is wrong right?
Great photos. Messina is NOT the town below. That's Giardini-Naxos to the south, and Letojanni to the north. Messina is further north!
