Go for a walk around the area - Izu-shima
Go for a walk around the area

Favorite thing: I took a bus from Yugano and about half an hour, I reached the upper level of the nature trail. Follow the signs or use of sense of direction [if there is no sign!!!] and you'll pass by a few waterfalls, forests....and finally you're back to Yugano after about 4 hours. Alone, nice.

Yugano - Fukudaya Ryokan - Izu-shima
Yugano - Fukudaya Ryokan

Favorite thing: It's a moderately priced ryokan lies next to the river and it dates back to Meiji era 12th year [1879]. The house itself looks very old from outside, inside is jawdropped spotless and comfortable. The owner is a amiable aged lady who doesn't speak english,...well just use your body gesture. The ryokan is famous of both the food and the opendoor hotspring. For more information, take a look at the Tips on accomodation under Japan page.

In the town - Izu-shima
In the town

Favorite thing: My original plan was to stay in a luxury hotel at Dogashima to watch the sunset as the place was on the western side of the peninsula. But since I travelled alone, most hotels didn't accept my reservation So I travelled further south and found this small town. I found that most of the outer wall of the houses were specially constructed. I heard that it's built like that to protect the houses from the wet weather - there was a typhoon coming up when I stayed there.

West Izu - Matsusaki

Favorite thing: Matsusaki - A small town about 20 minutes south of Dogashima.
This picture is taken from the Hotel Sunset Hill. From which you can watch the sunset and a spacious outdoor hotspring is ready for you, and it's only 7,500 yen per nite including breakfast & dinner.
