Are you planning a trip to San Francisco and not to Hearst Castle? Think again! It's a great place and the trip there can be great as well. Don't forget to book in advance or you will miss out on all the fun.
You can either take fast and boring US101 all the way down to I46 cross over to I1 and back up to San Simon this will take about 3-4 hours.
Or much better, book one of the last tours. Start early in the morning, take the US101 down to San José then take I17 down to Santa Cruz where you can ride the roller coaster and check out the beach or maybe not since you will spend a lot of time looking for a parking spot. Continue on I1 to Monterey where you can take the scenic route passing the famous Pebble beach golf course. I did and where not impressed, if you want to spend the money it's up to you. Then you can stop by in Carmel which is a nice town famous for having Clint Eastwood as mayor once. Lots of nice shops for the girls to spend there (your) money. Now when you continue maybe a little poorer than before you will soon reach the scenic part of I1 the "Big Sur Coast" which I personally love. After driving this beautiful road for a few hours you will reach San Simeon and Hearst Castle. If you get there a bit early, don't worry. There are restaurants, gift shops and even a small museum while you wait for your tour. After the tour take US101 back up to San Francisco, by this time you probably have had enough experiences for one day anyway.
