You don't have to worry about sharks :) On the other hand there are other dangers if you are not careful, and I will of course not take any responsibility for anything stupid you do! Here is a short description of the three musts when moving on ice covered lakes;
COMPANY - Most of the time you would be able to get up of the water on your own but what if you get hurt, panicked, exhausted, ... Then you really, really need a friend (or two). NEVER EVER go out on your own!
EQUIPMENT - Ice-pigs for pulling yourself up from the water, rope to help your friend(s) in the water, spare clothes and a towel in a tight plastic sack inside your rug sack equipped with a belt (this will work as a floating device), and maybe a special stick for probing the thickens of the ice.
KNOWLEGE - Normal common sense; more specific avoid ice over moving water like rivers, river outlets... (the ice will be thinner here and you can be dragged under it), don't get close to or try to cross shipping lanes (the ships will break trough the ice), Don't go to far away, don't get lost, Make sure you are back before dark (in the dark it's very difficult to navigate on ice), don't use skates if you do NOT have an experienced open ice skater with you (on skates you will end up a long, long way out on the thin ice before it breaks)
