  • Army Museum Is a national museum established in June 1959, was relies and trophies review the great periods of the armed struggle of the Vietnamese people. The museum holds the tank that burst through the gates in Saigon during the battle for liberation. There is also the usual assortment of military waste including a Mig fighter, anti aircraft missiles, tanks, an impressive pile of wreckage from a US B52 bomber and a French prop driven plane that were both shot down in the Hanoi area. Admission fee.

    There is a great banzai garden out the front before the tourist shop. entrance fee is 6,000d plus 10,000d for an optional concert with traditional instruments and songs. founded in 1070-1074 by Emperor Ly Thanh Tong, who dedicated it to Confucius(in Vietnamese, Khong tu). In 1076 Vietnam's first university was established here to educate sons of mandarins. Then well-knowledged men can join it. The Temple of Literature consists of 5 courtyards divided by walls.The central pathways and gates between courtyards were reserved for the King. There is one lake and 82 stelae here.

    Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum: Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum

  • It is 21 m high and in Vietnamese grey marble and granite. Like a lotus flower it was erected right at the historical place of Ba Dinh where President Ho Chi Minh declared the independence for Vietnam in 1945.

    Opera House: Hanoi Opera House

  • Hanoi Opera House is the largest theatre in Vietnam. Its construction started in 1901 and was completed in 1911. Unfortunately, to get inside you'll have to attend a performance, but that should be enjoyable as well.

    Out of Hanoi: Chua Huong - Perfume Pagoda

  • Chua Huong is not one temple but a cluster of temples and shrines located in Huong son (Perfume mountain). Although there is a road from the pier to the base of Perfume mountain, most people choose to use row boats on Yen Vi river, which is by far the more romantic and scenic route to chua Huong.

    Hoan Kiem Lake: Ho Hoan Kiem - Lake of the Returned Sword

  • A solitary pagoda on an islet to the west side of the lake has been built in the tortoise's honour.
    At the northern end of the lake is Ngoc Son (jade mountain) Pagodas, located on Jade Island. The access to the island is by an old red wooden bridge painted red namely The Huc, the Bridge of the Rising Sun.

    One pillar pagoda: One Pillar Pagoda (Chua Mot Cot)

  • One Pillar Pagoda is a cultural and historic relic, built in 1049 and called Dien Huu. It was constructed Legends said that King Ly Thai To did not have any sons. One night the Goddess of Mercy in his dream sitting on a lotus gave him a son. Later he married a young country girl and had a successor. The king thanked the Goddess of Mercy by building this pagoda in the form of a lotus.

    Army Museum: Hanoi Flag Tower

  • Beside the Army Museum there is a 59 m high ancient flag tower (Hanoi Flag Tower, also called Cot Co),that marks the tallest point in Hanoi displaying the flag of the united Vietnam. From here, there are unbeatable panoramic views of the city. Watch your head on the climb up though. The flag tower was once part of the Hanoi Citadel built in 1812.

    Churches: St. Joseph's Cathedral

  • Saint Joseph's Cathedral also known as Hanoi Cathedral. This Catholic cathedral was completed in 1887. It was closed in 1975 upon reunification of Vietnam, and was not reopened until 1985. The church itself has a striking presence with its two large square towers and can be visited any day of the week.

    Water puppet show: Water Puppet Theater

  • After an introduction of Vietnamese music, the show started. It is actually a series of scenes from Vietnamese everyday life, depicted by beautifully carved and painted puppets. They are held on long sticks by people standing in the water behind a bamboo screen.
