This is one out of six (I think?) capitol buildings of California during the "Gold Rush" era. The building is located on First Street, Benicia. For a year (1853-1854), this building served as the State Capitol before the government seat was transfered to Sacramento. Afterwhich the building served as a courthouse, church, grammar school, dance hall, city hall. Finally in 1958, after restoration efforts were done, it was opened to the public as Benicia Capitol State Historic Park. |
