Oh Poor Nauru

What a Tragedy!

http://www.economist.com/world/asia/displaystory.cfm?story_id=11090649

I was so sad to read about this story on Nauru in the Economist. Recently i had read also that they had been able to overthrow rene Harris' govt and the new elections have given a majority to the new govt.
watching a video on nauru on youtube made me feel so sad.. what could happen to a poor country, if it had money and bad advice..

i was lucky enough to visit Nauru on more than one occasion, in those days they had an airline that flew everywhere and you could get a nice flight from melbourne to vanuatu and new caledonia etc..
but soon obesity and diabetes took over and now corruption and poverty and bankruptcy had made Nauru once supposed to be the most prosperous island into a poorest wretched island of people dying for the lack of medications, children unable to go to school because of lack of water, and listening to bad advice they had bought Southern Cross Hotel in melbourne and the grand dame, GPH in Suva and now both unable to be rehabilitated.
this is truly a tragic story of our times for the antipodeans..
