As always Mandalay Inn and other Angkor Wat, Cambodia Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

I have been very lucky to visit Siem Reap at least twice per year and always have stayed at Mandalay Inn, on my Dec 2007 and January 2008 visits at the new premises. It is even nicer than before because of the deepening friendship with Maung Maung. Right now we are in the process of coordinating some humanitarian actviites in Thailand for Burmese Refugees and also for a medical clinic in Siem Reap for the poor. Those of you who stay there might want to discuss this with him.

Unique Qualities: efficient management
but khmer run, maung's wife and brother in law are in charge of the hotel and they are khmer.
the staff seem very happy and content.
there are 14 khmer people employed in the hotel and restaurant. Try to leave one dollar each for them if you are staying there for a few days. The tips are equally divided betweent he staff including the room service staff.
check out their website and find the various types of accomodation. Also this is the only place in Siem REap you coudl get information about tours to Myanmar and having things organized when you get to Yangon in Myanmar.

Since my last stay there, Maung and I had been in contact through email and when a chance presented to stop off in Siem Reap on my way to Hanoi ( there is a direct flight now), I jumped at the opportunity.
He had organized airport pick up and the best room was ready , neat and clean and the staff with their widest smiles and Burmese curry to boot...

Unique Qualities: Friendliness of the owner and the staff, central location, Burmese food, open air dining, reasonable price

Mandalay Inn has an inviting tone to it, so I entered and was overwhelmed by the warmth of the reception and immediately decided I must stay here. Spacious rooms which are airconditioned, felt so good entering them after walking through the heat of the day.
Burmese owned and having recently arrived from Yangon, felt nostalgic and the staff are all burmese with the typical burmese affectionate behaviour
My room was very quiet, hot and cold water and worth much more than the fee charged. very attentive service and of course, it is right on sivatha road, downtown, close to everything

Unique Qualities: Burmese Hospitality. Spacious Rooms, Quiet.
Maung Maung Myo Thaung runs the place and you can find other friendly burmese on the premises.

Very comfortable situated right in the centre of town next to the market. very friendly staff, especially the manager mr rattana. The receptionists are all very friendly including davy, narinn, chan tha.
also sokkinly at the restaurant. and many others.

Unique Qualities: Very friendly staff. spacious rooms. air conditioned. safe. bbc world news. cambodian motives in the halls. sumptous asian or european breakfast.
call them directly and they would give you a good rate. normal rate is around 80 dollars per room, but we were offered a better price and mr rattana upgraded our room.
On my second visit in February of 2003, I was given a room very far away, just ordinary and given the price being in the upper range for siem reap, I checked out. The hotel is still elegant but will succumb to the competition from so many other boutique hotels far more elegant and far more comfortable coming up in Siem Reap

Unsless you have specific requirements, it is very seldom necessary to book a hotel before coming to Siem Reap. It makes life a little easier if you know where you wish to stay and have contacted them before hand through email not for the ease of accomodations, but you would be spared the antics of touts at the airport and at the terminals. the hoteliers are friendly to such an extent that they might even refer you to other hotels if you so prefer.. there are plenty of hotels in siem reap and a new one going up every week and there are lots of all types of tourists.. those who stay at Raffles Hotel Angkor to humble guesthouses without windows..if you have any queries, can write to mandalyinn.com, my stays there always have been very good
