La Holandesa in Cannes on the French Riviera

by La_Holandesa - last update: May 20, 2006

CANNES Très jolie !!! :o)

I've been here many, many times and I looooove the mediterean way of life!!! :o)

Cannes is beautiful. It has a wonderful atmosphere, constant gentle sea breeze.

One of the most beautiful cities on the Cote d' Azur. The city is part of the Cote d' Azur, that hundred-mile stretch of the southeast France also known to the world as the French Riviera.

Cannes is the byword for year round enjoyment, which can be found close at hand. A place where culture, shopping, relaxation, sport and leisure meet.

In the heart of Cannes is The Croisette, the Palais des Festivals, the beaches, the marina, the boutiques.

Palais des Festivals - The Palais and convention center has turned Cannes into one of the most popular convention cities in the world. The Cannes International Film Festival is held here.

Promenade de La Croisette - One of the most famous promenades in the world.
For three kilometres following the curve of the bay all the way to Port Canto, the casino of Palm Beach. You can find your way back to the city center (centre ville) by walking along the famous rue d'Antibes, renowned for its international designer boutiques and world-class shopping. The rue Meynadier, restricted to pedestrian traffic only, runs near the rue d'Antibes and has excellent shops and boutiques of every kind. It is also less expensive, with many more trendy shops that open onto the street.

There are several restaurants, crêperies, bistros, green grocers and more, which are full of life...from morning till night!

Marché Forville is the covered produce market in Cannes. It is a lively, colourful, a very noisy French affair taking up an entire city block. Stalls sell vegetables, fruit, fish, oysters, every conceivable variety of paté and olives marinated in a thousand flavours. The flower market lies at the western end of the covered area. On a Monday, Forville transforms itself into a Flea Market (Marché Brocante).

THE MEDITERRANEAN

De la mer et des plages de Cannes….. The beaches are sandy and the color of the sea…
The sea is wowwwww, so beautiful blue!!!

Is the bluest of all the European seas. It is a deep cobalt blue…azur. One finds very small waves only when the Mistral, the famous wind of Southern France, has passed.

Isles de lerins / Lerins Islands:

Thirty minutes across the bay from Cannes you'll find this small island where the Man in the Iron Mask was imprisoned (you can even visit his cell).
See more in my tips about it.

Cannes, town of the festivities and filmstars..

Hollywood hot shots have swarmed into Cannes, particularly during the International Film Festival.

Cannes it’s known throughout the world for its prestigious film festival in May.
But also have the Shopping festival, MIDEM for music fans around the world, Festival De Danse and so many more.

With its wonderful year-round climate, Cannes provides the ideal setting for a fantastic working visit, artist retreat, or vacation holiday. La Croisette, beaches, seafood restaurants, cafes and terraces, as well as Le Suquet (the old quarter), local Provençal fairs, the "Vieux Port", artisans' areas, antique markets and world class shopping, are all within a short distance, providing a glamorous backdrop to the beautiful Mediterranean.

Cannes is located for local daytrips and travel; 45 minutes from Monaco, an hour from Italy and 5 hours from either Switzerland or Spain. Plus, the climate is one of the best in France with an average of over 300 days of sun per year!

Airport: Nice.
Airport ranks as one of the most active gateways to France and the Mediterranean. The airport is located 7 km west of the city centre and is the main port of arrival for passengers to the Côte d'Azur.

Cannes is heaven for shopaholics, who will never tire of the countless boutiques!
