Walking in the old city

I just like to stroll around the old city, no matter which city or where, I can just walk and walk and come back again to the same place and will do the same the next day. In Dubrovnik as the main street are rather crowded it was relaxing walking the narrow streets and take some nice photos.

Museums

There are many museums and galleries in Dubrovnik, some of them at the churches and monasteries and I mentioned few of them in my earlier tips, however, there are few more to check out and the best site of museums information is the official site linked here.

The Market

There is very nice Market in the old city. It is located just among the streets and walls of the old city, it is the best place to get some supply, whatever fresh food you are looking for, well, for those of you who stay in apartments with a kitchen this is a great place to get your local stuff.

City walls City walls Review

Dubrovnik old city is all surrounding with beautiful long and high city walls. You can climb up and walk around the city by the walls have a great views and landscape as well as check some of the hidden spots, ancient guns etc.

The Ploče gate

The Ploče gate is the other main gate of the old city. It is actually more beautiful to my eyes with the main entrance and additional routes into the old city. I added here few of my favourite images of it.

St. John Fortress

St. John Fortress is the massive construction of the walls around the harbour that protecting the old port of Dubrovnik. Inside these walls you can also check the Maritime museum and the aquarium.

The Sponza Palace Sponza Palace Review

A 16th century construction of the Sponza Palace is stand up by the end of the Stradum, the main street of the old city. It was originally made as a custom house but came up later to ne used as cultural centre as well.

This is the Rector's Palace, a unique site which is very interesting from the history and architecture point of view, it is located just on the Stradum and it was re constructed many times as it was damage by earthquake, fires, wars and other occasions through its history.

The Old Port/Harbour

The Old Port of Dubrovnik is used to be one of the busiest harbours of the Adriatic Sea in the old days. These days it is more of tourist place with some boats offering to take you to a cruise or a nearby islands. It is a place also for hanging around with cafes and restaurants around it.

Fort Lovrijenac Fort Lovrijenac Review

This fortress is located just outside the wall of the old city in the sea and it is 37 meter above sea level. It is one of the most visible sites of the city as you can see it from the old city walls as well as just from the tourist information square next to the Pile Gate and bus stops.
