This Santa Maria Maggiore church is one the oldest and biggest churches in Rome. The legend related it to a dream and a summer August snow, yet, another indication of global warming. ;-) Anyhow, I am not going to repeat all of its history, beside the fact that the oldest part is over 1500 years old.

This magnificent marble complex building in the Piazza Venezia is one of the trademarks of modern Rome, as it is only about 100 years old. It is symbol for unified Italy and memorial for the Unknown Soldier.

One of the worlds most famous tourist sites. 2000 years old, this old amphitheatre arena could hold over 50,000 spectators, showing that also in old times entertainment was a big business and was popular in Italy already, maybe as much as todays football ;-)

Many Arches and lots of archaeology, I enjoy the walk around on the old Roman road like entering the city through its many arches years ago. I almost felt like checking the fossils and going back in time.

This Arch is one of many arches around here but one of the most impressive and beautiful. Lost of interesting sculptures on it and as it near the crowded Colosseum it has a fence around to protect it from the massive tourism.

The arch of Titus builds after the Roman victorious over Judea in the year 70 AD. This arch contains stone image of the golden Menorah brought from the temple in Jerusalem to Rome. Some says it might be still hidden in the archives somewhere in the cellars of the Vatican, some convinced that it was melted and re cycled.
