Kuwait is MilAir Heaven

Hot Damn here I am!

On the shores of the Persian Gulf
I had been here once in the 1980's for a softball tournament. That really sucked, no beer and hotter than hell.

Here I was 20 years later, no beer and hotter than hell. I was transferred from Iraq and stationed in Kuwait for 15 months . It is not nearly as cosmopolitan or progressive as Dubai but it is damn well better than Iraq!

During this time I really did not get to do many tourist type activities as I was on a 7 day per week 12 hour per day work schedule which in dog days equates to ZERO personal time. I saw some things but by far not all things.

The Kuwaiti's have to quit blamimg the Iraq invasion in 1990 for all their faults. They let Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar outrun them on the economic and tourist fronts. This place could have been Dubai but they chose to let the conservatives in their society set the pace.

Kuwait Harbor

A view from our office window of the harbor. It is a beautiful sight after a few months up north in Iraq! Too bad we did not get to enjoy more of what Kuwait had to offer.
On a point by the shore

Kuwait Towers - A Symbol

This is one of the only sites in Kuwait that can be called a "Tourist" destination. It is two water towers, a restuarant, and an observation deck. It is considered to be the symbol of Kuwait. The Iraqis tried to shell it in the Gulf War and they did considerable damage but it still stood.

Pros:"Safer than Iraq"
Cons:"No BEER!"
In A Nutshell:"Better than Iraq, can't hold a candle to Dubai or Bahrain"

Very interesting insights on 'holidaying' in Kuwait! By the way, we Canadians always travel with that little extra 'something'!
