Restaurant Name: In-n-Out Hamburgers
In-N-Out Hamburgers! They are the best. They are all family owned and have not changed the menu since 1948. It is burgers, fries, sodas, and milkshakes. Period, no more, no less. The burgers are not big but they are 'Hot and Fresh'. They have remained true to their origins and are overwhelmingly popular in SoCal.
Favorite Dish: The Double-Double. Two patties and two cheese slices. About as big as a Big Mac but mucho tastier!

Encounter: The most unusual restaurant in LA

Restaurant Name: Encounter
Encounter is unusual because of it's location. It is the arched building at LAX (The LA Airport). Most tourists think that it is the control tower but the control tower is the tall spire type building on the left in this photo.
Favorite Dish: The Chef's Salad is all I have eaten here and is was no better or no worse than any others I have had.

The Apple Pan: Old school burgers

Restaurant Name: The Apple Pan
The Apple pan has been in it's location since God knows when. It has successfully withstood every attempt to buy the property. It has also withstood every attempt to mess with the food or the menu. It has a real simple menu and it has not changed for years. You have to stand around the wall and wait for a seat to open up. After that you order from the guy in the paper hat. He will get one of those old style metal holders that he puts a paper cone in for your soda. He then serves your fries first and pours the ketchup for you. The burger comes last and it is well waiting for. They are made of ground steak and are awesome. The burgers and fries come on paper plates too. IF you have room you have to go for the Apple Pie. It is the best in LA.
Favorite Dish: I love the steakburgers. No cheese, no mayo, just BBQ sauce and the fixin's. I get two of these and an order of fries. I order the pie but i always have to take it with me.

Grantman Mon Apr 24, 2006 18:59 UTC Scalpers sell tickets near the Coliseum (not legal, be discreet!). A Trojan football game & tailgate parties is a beautiful day in L.A. The Downtown skyline and San Gabriel Mountains can be seen from some of the seats. Fight on! | USCgirlie Sun Apr 9, 2006 02:09 UTC Fight On!! | erikatheskysailor Sat Jan 1, 2005 20:27 UTC Very, very cool! :) I am in that 1% that saw the blimp up close. A few years ago, it was idling RIGHT OVER our driveway! If I had been on the roof, I may have been able to touch it! If only I had gotten photos! :( | karenincalifornia Fri Dec 10, 2004 22:29 UTC Interesting peak at LA and defintiely not the typical tourist spots. I used to live 10 min. away from the very first In N Out in Pasadena! Now it's one of the hottest hamburger joints in Marin! Good luck in Iraq. |
