Carren and I decided that it would be better for us to rent an apartment for our stay. Tanner was only 1 1/2 years old at the time so the relaxed family atmosphere plus the kitchen and washer/dryer really made a difference.
The place was more than we expected and was much bigger than we thought we would find for the money. It cost us 110 Euro per day vs. the 130 Euro and up that we were facing at a 5 star hotel.
Unique Qualities: We rented an apartment on Via de Serpenti which was located just 6 blocks from the Colisseum. We had shops, groceries, restaurants, etc. all in our neighborhood to use and really enjoyed the fact that we did not have to run the gauntlet of front desks, porters, etc.
The place included maid service twice weekly, garbage, a full kitchen, big living room, separate bedroom, double doors, TV-VCR, phone (local only), and furnishings. It was well worth every penny and best of al.....it was cheaper than a 5 star hotel!
It was located right in the center of everything too. We could walk almost anywhere we wanted to go and we were only 1 block from a bus stop (64 Line) and the subway station.
