This is a wonderful place - a former library and some of the rooms still have books to add some charm. The service is very good and we enjoyed the Indian/fusion dinner very much although it was in January when special prices were available. Check www.london-eating.co.uk to see if the special deal is still on.

MONMOUTH COFFEE COMPANY: THE BEST COFFEE!!

  • Restaurant Name: MONMOUTH COFFEE COMPANY

Cross the street and try to find this coffeehouse near the Borough Market. You can sit and enjoy the best coffee instead of standing and drinking it in the Market itself.

Other great coffee to be found at Flat White in Soho (their other shop is Milk Bar). It gets rave reviews as does the Nordic Bakery also in Soho for great breads, cinnamon buns etc.

Favorite Dish: This Monmouth Coffee Company cafe is the big younger sister of an established favourite in Covent Garden. It has marginally more space here, which lets it go beyond pure-play coffee beans and filter coffee, to add a big table for bread and jam, plus assorted other savouries and pastries.

Brick Lane: ANYONE FOR INDIAN FOOD?

  • Restaurant Name: Brick Lane

If you're looking for a huge selection of Indian, curry places - this is the place to go and find a fairly inexpensive meal. I also found a store selling 'beigels,' and the line went out the door. They're cheap and pretty tasty, although don't expect them to taste like the ones found in NYC! We also came across a man playing a mean piano.. Sunday is a great day to stroll down either after or before a stop at Spitalfields Market.

NEW WORLD: NEW WORLD - DIM SUM

  • Restaurant Name: NEW WORLD

New World seems a popular choice for many people wanting a Dim Sum meal in Chinatown. I think there are cheaper places, but this is one of the only old-fashioned restaurants where girls are wheeling around the usual carts full of goodies. We had a good lunch - moderately priced for London. As usual, the drinks cost almost as much if not more than the food!

People often ask where to find a tasty AND economical meal in London. One of my favorite spots is Pret A Manger. They are located all over London and the price is right. There are many interesting ingredients in the sandwiches and wraps - my favorite is the Hoisin Duck Wrap. One can also find salads, desserts and drinks.

Patisserie Valerie: POPULAR CHAIN FOR ALL MEALS

  • Restaurant Name: Patisserie Valerie

The Patisserie Valerie chain can be found all over London. They serve very good breakfasts plus lunch and dinner, not to mention French breads, pastries and wonderful hot, Belgian chocolate. One of the more outstanding of the group is their Soho location close to the theatre district and Shaftsbury/Chinatown. Best of all, the prices aren't exorbitant - at least for London.

Haozhan in London's Chinatown is a great spot for lunch or dinner. It's easily found and the modern Cantonese cooking is delicious and upscale. The menu also includes some Malaysian dishes - all presented very nicely. I often stop in for their lunch special which is 3 courses for £8.

Thank you for your kind comment on my Haarlem page. Preparing a new visit to London I looked with much interest to your restaurant reviews, especially the Indian ones. As for Van Goch the Musée d'Orsay has some of his best paintings as you have seen.
