"A spin around Lake Bled" Bled by travelmad478

On the afternoon of our day in Slovenia, we raced out to Lake Bled to take in the alpine air, walk around the lake, and (most importantly) sit down for pastries and coffee at one of the lakeside cafes. The weather wasn't perfect while we were there, but the beauty of the lake came through anyway. And the pastry didn't suffer, either!

The Lake Bled area is quite built-up and can't really be called a pristine environment. There are plenty of tourist attractions and many hotels, some of them fairly hideous Communist-era structures, right on the lake shore. Still, you can have a nice day walking around, and Bled is a good base camp for outdoor activities in the mountains all around. It's an easy drive, all highway, from Ljubljana (although I wouldn't do it at 140 kph like my friend Sašo did!)
