I spent two days in Islamabad on a business trip in February 2006. The city immediately made a striking impression on me as the most orderly, clean, and quiet city I'd ever seen in South Asia. Islamabad has only been around for about 45 years, and it is a planned city (similar to Brasilia), so it's a little lacking in character and charm, but still pleasant enough. I did a few hours of sightseeing and was favorably impressed by the nice parks, law-abiding drivers, and overall good maintenance in the city. Clearly, Pakistan is proud of its capital and wants it to look great for everyone.
