Geelong was once the hub of the Wool growing & manufacturing industry. As the saying goes Geelong used to 'Ride on the sheep's back'. Many of the old wool stores still stand today, including the National Wool Museum which also houses the Geelong Visitor Information Centre & Deakin University

104 Painted wooden sculptures (Bollards) made from old telegraph poles are scattered around Corio Bay. Each Bollard has a story and is taken from a time in Geelong, Victoria or Australia's History. (See more in my 'Bollards' Traveloge)

The Geelong Botanical Gardens are a short walk from the City. A place for people of all ages. Go there for a peaceful walk in the Park, to learn about geelongs history, a picnic, a cup of coffe and a sandwich, to get away from everything. View the regions many varied plant life including Rainforest, 21st Century Garden, and Rose Garden.

Mad Ford enthusiasts, car lovers and Kids will love this place. Geelong is home to a major Ford Motor Car manufacturing plant. This museaum explains the History of the "Ford" and gives visitors the opportunity to see how cars are made.

Tucked away in North Geelong is the Maritime Museum. I unfortunately haven't had the opportunity to visit it yet. The Museum has a varied collection of memorabilia.

Another place on my list of must see's..which I haven't seen since it became a tourist attraction! The Geelong Gaol was built in 1853 and closed in only recently in 1991. This gaol was UNHEATED and UNSEWERED !

Aboriginal Cultural Interpretaion Centre. Learn about Geelong aboriginal history. They have a traditional native Australian garden. If you are after some traditional Aboriginal souveniers this is the place to come.
