during ww2, hailar has been controlled by japanese guandong army. they built many fort arround the city to block the soviet red army. it is one of 14 main boundry fort in northeast china. |
|  | a japanese hell beishan underground fort, now open to the visiters as a memorial site. it is 20 meter under the ground. when i go into it i feel i was in hell. in 1930s, japanese army forced thousands of chinese workers to build it and then killed them after finish the projects. eventully, this firm fort was destoryed by red army. |
