I went to the Mayenne (region of France) in October 2000. I went for 4 days on a business trip looking at accommodation on offer in the area.
The Mayenne is situated to the right of the Ile-et-Vilaine region and below the Orne region (NW France).
The region is not particularly popular due to the quietness (no large cities nearby). It is usually a region most people will drive through on the way to the west coast.
I found the region very scenic and quiet. It reminded me a little of the English countryside. The region is not populated with tourists so you get to see the real France. It would be a great place to go to relax and get away from everyday life.
