Beaches: Coastal Walk, Bondi - Coogee
  • Tip Rating:
  • The views are spectacular, and with the right weather it's a great way to spend half a day, or even a whole day if you choose to stop at each of the beautiful beaches along the way.

The walk also takes in Tamarama, Clovelly, Gordons Bay and Waverley Cemetery. Trust me on the last one.

    Blue Mountains: Blue Mountains Drive
  • Tip Rating:
  • Everyone says go see the Blue Mountains, and it is a great place, but my advice is that if you do decide to go (and you should), do it by car. Hire one, borrow one or steal one (actually, ignore last comment!), but don't just take a prescribed tour by coach or whatever.

Stick to the cliff drive and just experiment along the way - if you see a signpost to a town, venture off. If you see a brown sign, it's always worth a look. And last piece of advice - take your time. Only come back from the Blue Mountains when you've covered it all and at your own pace. Allow a few days and you'll really enjoy the break from city life.

Skyline of Sydney: Eat at Horizons, ANA Hotel
  • Tip Rating:
  • The ANA hotel offers a truly fantastic view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Take a lift up to the Horizons bar (check first that you can do so without pre-booking ... otherwise be sure to book) and admire the bridge in front, Darling Harbour and Pyrmont to your left and the Opera House/Circualr Quay to your right.

There is also a very nice sushi restaurant which is very pricy, but when we visited midday on Saturday, this was closed - but that was great, because it offered more views, and we could take photos at leisure.

    Go on, spoil yourself ...

    Beaches: People-watching at Bondi
  • Tip Rating:
  • Well, for me it was not unique, as this was where I stayed, and most mornings involved a stroll down Campbell Parade. But Bondi does attract some of the posier people, and it's fun to watch the posers do their thing, whether that be ride up and down the strip on oversized Harleys or check their tanned reflections in the shop windows.

The picture above was taken at sunrise on Bondi (you can see the volleyball stadium in the distance). Even at this time people were up and about running or, and perhaps this is predictable, doing a spot of Tai Chi!
