  • The Wat Traimit temple is nothing special from the outside, but is famous for the big Golden Buddha statue.
The statue itself is 800 years old and maybe it is not a masterwork, but.. yes, it is solid gold: more than 5 tons. The world largest golden statue.
For a few centuries the statue was covered with white stucco and maybe for this reason (besides its weight) it did not disappear during the Burmese invasion.

  • Wat Pho temple, also known as Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is famous for the huge statue inside.
Anyway, it is an interesting building also from the outside: it has been built by King Rama I at the end of the 18th century and it is one of the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok.
The traditional massage school close to the temple is famous through all Thailand and state of the art massages are performed at a reasonable price.

  • The huge statue of the reclining Buddha inside the Wat Pho temple is really impressive.
Needless to say, it is the largest reclining Buddha in the world: 46 mt long and 15 mt high. Impossible to take a picture of it all, as the space around is limited. I just could take a shot of one foot.

  • The large temple complex of Wat Phra Kaeo has been built at the end of the 18th century by King Rama I, together with the neighbouring Grand Palace.
This temple is not inhabited by monks, and it is famous for the worhipped Emerhald Buddha statue, that dates back to the 15th century or even before.
The entrance to the temple has two impressive demon statues guarding the gate.

  • The Phra Mondob, in the Wat Phra Kaeo complex, is also known as "the scripture hall" or "the library".
It is a wonderful building that was used for lectures of the sacred books.

  • The Prasart Phra Debidorn is one of the most popular buildings in the Wat Phra Kaeo complex.
Also know as "the royal pantheon", it is a magnificent building with beautiful ornate windows and roof.
