Things To Do: Khao Wang
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • The official name is Phra Nakhon Kriri Historical Park, but everybody name it just Khao Wang.
This 92 mt high hill can be reached by walking from central Phetchaburi, or you may take a cable-car to reach the top (good idea if it is too hot).
There are royal palaces, temples and other fine buildings, mostly dating back to the 19th century when king Rama IV decided to have one of his residences being built here.
The Khao Wang is very popular with thai tourists and it can get quite crowded during holidays.

  • The palaces and temples in Khao Wang are built in different styles, ranging from the classical chinese to the western european.
From the hill there are stunning views of Phetchaburi town.

  • This beautiful monastery and temple complex dates back to the 17th century and it has been partially renovated one century later.
Many buildings are made of wood and the main hall is quite unique: without windows and with some old mural paintings.
I really liked this place, especially its fascinating and relaxing atmosphere. The monks have been very kind with me and I was allowed to spend most of the day with them, even during "private" prayers and lectures.

  • This small wooden library, called "Hor Tri Klang Nam" (or just "Tri Pitaka Pavillion") is amazingly set in the middle of a pond in the Wat Yai Suwannaram temple complex.
It contains some old Buddhist sacred books and it can be reached by a narrow wooden catwalk. It is obviously not open to tourists.

    Things To Do: Khmer ruins
  • Tip Rating:
  • In central Phetchaburi there are still some Khmer prangs standing, though in ruinous conditions.
I am sorry I could not get more info about them.

    Things To Do: Buddha statues
  • Tip Rating:
  • The number and variety of temples in Petchaburi is outstanding.
As everywhere in Thailand, Buddha statues are always present in the the temples and actively worshipped.
