A blend of cultures

View of Penang (Georgetown) from Penang Hill
Penang town (also named Georgetown) is the main city of Penang Island, with 250000 inhabitants, and it is a major commercial centre for Malaysia and all South-East Asia.
Penang has been the first British post in the far East in 1786 and since then its importance went on growing, attracting immigrants from China, India, Indonesia, Thailand.
Modern Penang is a busy efficient city, very easy to visit for everybody and with good tourist facilities. There is a mixture of cultures and religions (though predominantly chinese) that reflects itself in the variety of interesting religious buildings around town (chinese temples, thai temples, Anglican churches, Mosques, Hindu temples, etc.).
Since 1985 Penang island is connected to mainland Malaysia by a long bridge that makes transportation very straightforward.

Those monkeys look cute but it's definitely not cute to be bitten.
