The decision to visit Jordan was totaly unplanned. One day, a friend of mine, asked me if I'd like to visit Jordan and I without any think about - I said YES.
I must admit, the traveling was unforgettable.

We left cold and snowy Ljubljana a day after Christmas, and departed towards Wienna by bus. In Wienna, we took a plane to Jordan. We arrived in Amann airpot very late. After a short rest we continued our way to
Aqaba - the goal of our traveling.

Aqaba is a very pleasant town by Red Sea. It's the only Jordan port. We stayed in a nice hotel in the middle of town, not far away from the beach.

Every second day, we have a trip to other places. So we made a trip into ancient Petra. This is the place "You must see". The canyons and the ruins of the former town are so imposing. (See the photos in travelogue)

Unforgettable was also a trip to Wadi Rum. The scenery is breathtaking. The minerals in the stone change colour all the time, upon the sunlight.

We spent a day with beduins, we drove into desert by jeeps, and after a day full of impressions, we had a dinner and listen local music in beduin tent.

The most interesting was the trip to Dead Sea. A friend of mine with her son and me hired a taxi - very, very old mercedes - brakes didn't worked very well, but at that time we didn't know that. Driver's english was much more poorier than mine, and with words and hands we settled the direction - Dead Sea. After a pretty long
driving (with short stops to pour water into refrigerator), he stoped in the middle of nowhere, and said - that's it. Dead Sea was there, but nothing else - no hotels or other building, or restorant - nothing. Just bush in the shore. We were tired, it was hot, so we took a bathe and tried to swim. This was the special experience. The water is so salty, that you can't go down. Anyway, we returned to our hotel late but safe and satisfied that we saw and tried Dead Sea.

On days we hadn't any trip, we enjoyed swiming in the warm Red Sea, we went to sightseeing the city, shops, workshops (very interesting is mixing diferent coulours of fine sand into the bottle) Very colourful is market place, with all kind of spices, fruit, hand made stuff...and of course gold street - with gold shops door to door.

Meanwhile we celebrated New Year 1997, and althught it isn't their New Year, Jordans prepared us a real great party with music dancing ...

We stayed in Jordan 12 unforgettable days.

You are kindly invited to see the photos in tavelogue.

Lovely photos, and I so enjoyed hearing about your drive to the Dead Sea. You make me feel guilty for not doing a VT page about my visit to Jordan, probably just as long ago as yours!
