  • Murano was one of the three islands of the Lagoon of Venice, we visited. It is among bigger islands and lies about half mile to the north of Venice. This time, Venice droped off. We focused onto islands Murano, Burano and Torcello.

  • Murano is composed by series of small islands connected by bridges. It is the centre of the glass making since 1291, when artisan moved from Venice to avoid fire danger.

  • This beautiful medivial "campanile" or bell tower dominates the Murano skyline. Nearly next door is located a historic church - Basilica di Santi Maria e Donato.

  • This photo was taken next to the Basilica di Santi Maria e Donato. I don't know, what exactly houses this building. It looks nice to me, with that beautiful well in front of it.

  • Basilica di Santi Maria e Donate is one of the two historic churches in Murano. First built in the 9th century, often rebuilt and restored, is absolutely a "must see". The churc is richly decorated. Especially are awesome its beautiful mosaics.

  • Island Murano is worldwide fame upon Murano glass. The industry had its beginnings on Torcello, later it was shifted to Venice, till moved to the island of Murano. A "must see" in Murano is the Museo Vetraio, or Glass Museum in the center of the island.

  • And at the end - see "our" boat. This boat with two Italian "sailors" was our for the whole day. We landed on three beautiful islands of the Lagoon of Venice, and spent an incredible day.

Great page Olga! Another one of the islands that I unfortunately missed seeing. Wow, I didn't know Murano was actually a series of islands and bridges. The Basilica di Santi Maria e Donate looks amazing! I see I definately missed a lot!

So nice of you to stop by my Puerto Banus page. It really is a lovely town. Enjoyed this Murano page especially the glass-blowing shops and the Basilica Di Santi Maria.. Looks like you had a nice time here.
