Yes, Ukiah is actually that small. A beautiful valley with many outdoor recreational activities, those living here think nothing of running into everyone they know or knowing everyone they run into. It's common to have the mayor clean your teeth (he's a dentist), chat with the Sheriff at the grocery store, carpool to kids soccer games with one of the judges, and have the owner of one of the many excellent restaurants personally stop by your table, ask how you've been & why you haven't stopped by in a while. It's what folks are talking about when they remember small town America. Which is one of the reasons why Ukiah was voted #6 in Norman Crampton's book, "The 100 Best Small Towns in America", and the #1 small town in California. |

Your pages are outstanding ! | DocBenWiz Wed Aug 30, 2006 19:53 UTC Thanks for the honest tip; recently heard of Ukiah, plan to visit for possible move. Since I have a probation and mental health work history, this was great info on a career basis (job security I guess) as well as important for personal safety. | ChuckG Sat Jun 19, 2004 08:02 UTC Very interesting, i'll drive through your town soon !
