United States of America

by horsinround2 - last update: Jul 15, 2006

I was born here, in California - 1973, and have not lived outside of the USA. My parents started dragging me around the states before I could walk, so I've seen over half of my country. Our most memorable trip was when I was 12. Mom & Dad decided to load up the motor home & take the kids on a two month vacation through the western half of the USA. (I am the oldest of FIVE!!! And yes, my parents are nuts!) It was a lot of fun, we met some very nice people, experienced a tornado in Kansas, heat wave in Texas, and early summer freeze in Montana. The most frequent question we got was, "Y'all ain't from 'round here are ya?"
Anyhow, I've started making a scrapbook for myself and as I find pictures from all of those trips I will be putting some of them in here. Some of the better places I have gone back to and will be making seperate pages for them. (Just as soon as I get a scanner.)

OK... I was dumb enough to do it again!

18 years after the last madcap trip across country with my family I'd sufficiently forgotten enough of the reasons why NOT to do it again & volunteered to help my mother move halfway across the United States. She insisted on moving her own stuff. So..... imagine an eight day trip in two U-Hauls towing two vehicles with three dogs and a cat. Just seeing a U-Haul makes me want to scream & run!
For those of you having difficulty with your imaginations... I'll attempt to add a travelogue explaining the perils of traveling cross country in this manner.

Pros:"The USA is extremely diverse. You can and will find ANYTHING here."
Cons:"Weather changes dramatically throughout the states - make sure you research well."
In A Nutshell:"Don't drive cross country in a U-haul with three dogs and a cat!!!"

Tipping is not that complicated. To figure out 20%..on $10.00, multiply 10 x 2=20 and add a zero.($2.00) 15%=1 whole, plus a half. Therefore, $1.00 + .50=$1.50. ALWAYS ROUND UP, NOT DOWN.
