Os de Civís Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 4 photos

Well here's an odd little place. the town is in Spain but the only real way to reach it is through Andorra. You COULD reach it from spain but you have to use mountain trails and dirt roads. From andorra, you can use a paved road. A narrow, paved road. A narrow, paved road, winding up a mountain with crap visibility. However once you get there...

This little town is simply gorgeous. It's super rustic, the buildings are made of stone, for the most part, there are dogs loose everywhere (I like dogs so this was an attraction for me. My sister in law, however, wasn't too convinced).

You can smell the mountains, the flowers, the grass, etc (yes even the manure, but it's just part of the charm). Lichens and moss grow everywhere, which is evidence of almost nonexisting pollution levels.

So how does this little town survive? By tourism. And what kind of tourism flocks here, to this village in spain that can only be reached from Andorra? French tourists!!!

The souvenire shops have most everything labeled in French, and there is at least one tour bust full of French people in town at any given time.

There is a little church at the top of the steepest cobblestone road I've ever walked on.

The Story or Kayam.

We went to Os De Civis to celebrate Andorra's Constitution Day away from any breathalizer tests (there is no customs booth, nor any noticeable border, and definitely no police here).

We decide we should go visit the church, and we walk towards it, passing the dirtiest Eskimo dog I've ever seen. It doesn't even acknowledge us as we pass him until we head for the church. Then he runs past us, gets between us and the road and barks a whole bunch while wagging his tail.

I squat down, hold out my hand (palm up, very important with dogs btw) and let him sniff me. then I slowly pet him a bit. That was all Kayam wanted. He then became our tour guide. He took us to the chrsch, showed us the village, the little den he made for himself under one of the houses, etc.

"What's the point of all this?", you may ask. None. I really bonded with Kayam and since I may never see him again, I wwanted to put this to words while the memory is still fresh.
