Wanderings in the Balkans | Piran Slovenia, autumn sunset |
I spent most of the 1980's exploring the variety of landscapes of the former Yugoslavia. It started out with package holidays on the Dalmatian coast but soon developed into independent wanderings around Croatia Serbia and Bosnia - then I discovered Slovenija! I contrive to visit Slovenija at least once a year, using the town of Idrija as my base. To be honest, it has become a necessity to preserve my sanity. Prolonged urban living takes its toll and the clean air, beautiful scenery and hospitable people of Slovenija contribute to a stress free experience like no other. For my wife and I, family holidays are important too, and we like to give our two children the opportunity to experience different cultures, sights and experiences, in the hope that it will help them to understand that they are citizens of the world and share a responsibility for its peaceful development. We get to see some interesting people and places - I hope that through these pages I can take you along with us and share in some of our experiences |
