  • Tip Rating:
  • The Parliament building in Queens Park. Take a free tour if you can.
This is where Ontario's government has been meeting since 1893. I visited during the summer when the House was not in session so I couldn't watch any of the debates. But if you visit in the spring or fall I'd definitely take the oppertunity to watch. This is actually quite a nice building. When in the chamber, look for the gold mace. Apperently there's a rule, going back to British times, that parliament could not meet if the mace wasn't there. So of course they had a bit of a problem when the Americans stole it. Also look for the difference between the east and west wings. In 1909, a fire destroyed the west wing and it was redone with marble imported from Italy. If you look carefully you can actually see dinosaur fossils hidden in the walls. The east wing still has the original wood and iron.

Casa Loma: I must admit that I have a...
  • Tip Rating:
  • I must admit that I have a fascination with castles so of course I had to see Toronto's very own castle Casa Loma.
Started in 1911, Casa Loma is the result of a life-long dream of Sir Henry Pellatt. It took nearly 3 years and 300 men to build this castle and it cost $3,500,000 at the time. Unfortunately Sir Henry ran into some financial difficulties and in less than 10 years he was forced to give up his castle. Today it's owned by the City of Toronto and operated by the Kiwanis Club. Visitors can walk around the castle and also take a look at the beautiful gardens. There's also an underground tunnel that connects the castle to the stables but unfortunately we ran out of time. There are also two towers that you can climb. There's the Scottish Tower to the east that is the highest but it's enclosed. Then there's the one that we climbed the Norman Tower. I'll warn you before hand though, it's quite a climb. And it's not an easy climb when you're out of shape just like me. This tower is open and it provides a beautful view of Toronto.

Directions: We had a bit of a tough time finding this castle because this it's not located in downtown Toronto and the directions weren't really clear. So I'll attempt to describe to you the way we got there but

Hockey Hall of Fame: The Hockey Hall of Fame.
  • Tip Rating:
  • An absolute must for all you hockey fans. And even for non hockey fans. There is so much history in this place. There's a section devoted to Brantford's very own Wayne Gretzky. Also look for the international section which features hockey sweaters from countries such as Australia and Holland. That was one of my favourites. Of course one must not miss that most important trophy out of all trophies. The Stanley Cup of course. Seeing it up close I was in awe of it and I don't normally follow hockey all that close. Also look for the earlier Stanley Cups.

    CN Tower: CN Tower
  • Tip Rating:
  • Of course all travellers to Toronto must go up the CN Tower. There is absolutely no getting out of it. This tower is the world's tallest free standing structure. Visitors can choose from a number of packages. I've done two:

There's the Observation Experience which costs $24.06. This includes going up to the lookout place, the incredibly scary glass floor, and a ride going all the way up to the Skypod. This is the one that I recommend.
There is also the Total Tower Experience. This includes everything listed above and a presentation of how the tower was built and two simulated rides that have absolutely nothing to do with the CN Tower. This one cost $33.56. Of course if you want to do absolutely everything, go with the Total Tower Experience but if I were you I would spend my money on the Observation Experience. There is a revolving restaurant up there but from what I've heard it's pretty expensive. The view is absolutely beautiful, especially at night. They've also got the glass floor and since I'm afraid of heights, walking on that is the scariest thing I've ever done.

Directions: It's pretty hard not to find the CN Tower in Toronto. Just look for the big tower and follow.
