I had the opportunity to visit Mackinac Island on an organized tour trip, which visited Chicago and the island. First of all, don't pronounce the "c"- it's pronounced Mack-in-aw not Mack-in-ack. The reason being the English spelling is with "aw" for the city, and the French spelling is with "ac" for the island. This is a really touchy issue for the locals so don't pronounce it wrong!

Mackinac Island is a cute little island in Northern Michigan that can only be reached by ferry from St. Ignace or Mackinaw City. These two cities are connected by Mackinac Bridge, which is the longest suspension bridge over freshwater in the the world. The island itself is the 2nd National Park in the US, where motorized vehicles are banned so the modes of transportation are by foot, bicycle, horseback, or horse carriages. If you're ever around the Great Lakes area, you must take the time to visit this wonderful place because there is nowhere else like it!
