for our 7 hour layover we rented a car and drove to the blue lagoon, very windy volcanic road, my 4 year old son booted before we got there, then once we were there he and my wife slept in the car for 2 hours as I watched bus after bus after bus pull into the blue lagoon. When they woke up we went in and much to my suprise it was not too crowded at all. We also drove into town and went to the pearl resteraunt and some small towns on the coast.
