I have visited Meteora in 2004, during the summer Olympics. In a year...I returned..But this time with a bunch of people- people have to see this beauty, right??? :))

When you arrive at Kalambaka town, you continue either with taxi, or your own vehicle. There are two possible routes. to see all the 24 rocks that will capture your eye...On the top there are 6 monasteries built in the 14th century byt he monks that secluded from the society...The views from them will take your breath away...One cannot describe the beauty - you must see it yourself... |
So..legend has it that the monasteries were completely built in the 14th century, but the first appeared already in the 11th century. So, they build 24 monasteries. Then it is said that the first founder St. Atanas was flown by the eagle onto the top :)
Now from all those 24 only six remained...You can look at the byzantine art paintings inside (frescos, icons) and various manuscripts... |
