I became very interested in geography as a kid and one of the places that I took notice of was Ouagadougou, the capital city of what was then Upper Volta. I tought the name Ouagadougou was so strange and I wonder what that city looked like. Well I finally got the chance to see the place. The country had then changed its name from Upper Volta to Burkina Faso. With my friend Luc from Benin I went to Ouagadougou by taxi from Cotonou in Benin. We had some very nice days in Ouagadougou. We used Ouagadougou as a sort of base and went from there by train to Ferkessedougou in Ivory Coast, then back to Ouagadougou. Then to Bolgatanga in Ghana and back before heading to Niamey in Niger from were I took a plane back home to Norway. Burkina Faso is mostly a flat country and its very poor, among the poorest countries in the world. It hasnt any special touristic sights as far as I could see but just to be there and look at the people and their way of life was interesting. I enjoyed my stay in Burkina Faso very much.
