Montreal is an island, takes its name from the "Royal Mountain".With the mountain at its back and Saint Lawrence River around its shores. It is the second largest city in Canada.A major draw for tourists, it attracts millions of visitors each year.In 1992 Montreal celebrated its 350th anniversary.Metropolitan Montreal is also the second-largest French-speaking metropolis in the world.Montreal is a vibrant, multicultural community, because immigrants have come from every corner of the world. There is more to Montreal than festivals, however the city has many historic sites and landmarks and its museums rank among the best in North America. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art are just few of the many museums we have in Montreal.Montreal is also known of its churches. It is amazing how many churches we have in Montreal, hundreds of beautiful churches of all faiths.Montreal has also the Notre Dame Basilica in the heart of "Old Montreal".At the south eastern end of Mount Royal Park, is St.Joseph Oratory, one of North America's most visited shrines. It attracts over two million pilgrims annually, who come to pay homage to the father of Jesus. The "Old Port" is a major tourist attraction in summer especially on a sunny day.You can walk by the river, take a ferry to Longueil "navette", Get drawn by an artist. We can spend pages and pages talking about Montreal, but the best thing for you is actually to visit it in summer. In winter the weather can get harsh sometimes, especially in "January" and "February", but it will be good for you if you like to ski!Montreal is a billingual city with French as its official language but English is also spoken almost everywhere.
