Barcelona: Mediterranean Essence

by gasca - last update: Oct 3, 2005

Welcome to my Barcelona page!!!

Here I want to give my little contribution to unknown Barcelona, some corners that are often missed or some places I find charming.

<br>If you would go to one city in Spain you would probably choose Barcelona.

Barcelona is a modern southern-Europe city with multicultural athmosphere and good night life.
Here there's a brief outline of Barcelona's quarters and what you can find there.

[Sants-Montjuic] For me this is the best quarter to live in. Here you have the Montjuic mountain and the olympic ring. Here you can also find Sants street, Europe's largest commercial street.

[Ciutat-Vella] The most visited quarted. The city hall and city center is here. Here you can find all the shops and city activity.

[Eixample] The enlargment of the city was designed in the style of cities like Chicago. Many things can be said about the history of this quarter and the architect who designed: Ildefons Cerdà.

[Gracia] Nice district with litlle squares and good night life. Good bars, restaurants...

[Les Corts] Nothing interesting here but nice quarter.

[Sarria-Sant Gervasi] This is the high standing quarter of the city. Nothing interesting apart from the single-family houses with garden and all the rest of it.

[Horta, Nou Barris, Sant Andreu, Sant Marti] Nothing interesting till 2004 in Sant Marti, where Forum De Les Cultures will be held.

Forum De Les Cultures it's just a way of keep running the engine that was started for 1992 Olympic Games.

Themes: cultural diversity, sustainable development and conditions for peace.

Forum 2004
Some people come to Barcelona to watch Bull fights. There's a bulls fight square, called Plaza Monumental, but "best" toreros and corridas are seen in places where tradition is more deep-rooted like Pais Vasco (Basc Country), Andalucia and in general every other region.

Sorry for some of the pictures...people from VT have resized them and maps are blurry.
