Gondolas: Gondolas are for Tourists

Local Venetians do not ride in gondolas. Only tourists. My advice- if you are on your honeymoon or a romantic vacation then indulge. Otherwise, admire the gondolas from the shore. There is nothing more stupid looking then a gondola full of tourists in the daytime. Save your money.

At Least Do This: If you are on your honeymoon or going to/being proposed to then I guess a gondola ride would be acceptable.
Alternative: Take the vaporetta for wonderful canal views.

Avoid Harry's Bar. Go here only if you are homesick for other Americans. Always crowded. You can order the peach concoction at home. To get there: From St Mark's Square for Accademia and take 1st left down Calle Valleressa. Harry's Bar is last on the left.

Alternative: Have a drink atop Hotel Daneli.
